Over the last two weeks technicians have been turning the Garrison Church of St Barbara into a film set. An enormous amount of activity has been going on.
The scene being filmed at the Church is part of a major Hollywood blockbuster ‘The Secret Service’ a comic book remake by the same name and it is clear the budget is enormous. I have heard that £30k has been paid to the MOD to rent the church and a further £100k spent on getting the Church up to the specifications of X Men & Kick Ass Director Matthew Vaughn who apparently lives not too far from here.
There is a huge amount of buzz in the village and wider as residents have an eye out for A-List Celebrities. The cast for the movie is impressive. Samuel L Jackson, Michael Caine, Leonardo DiCaprio and Colin Firth are expected to star in the movie. It is also rumoured that Taylor Swift, Elton John, David Beckham and Adele may also make cameo appearances.
The film is about an ex-MI6 agent (Firth) who recruits his nephew to spy school in order to get him off the streets. Jackson plays the baddy with Caine playing the head of the British spy agency. Firth has been spotted filming for the movie in London recently which he will feature in the typical British dashing role he has become well known for.
It appears that the Church could be being prepared for a fight scene. A Polystyrene replica wall has been constructed inside the church. Most if not all of the stain glass windows have been removed along with much of the contents of the church and there is a large amount of scaffolding on one side of the historic church that dates back to 1901. The listed building (affectionately known as the “Tin Tabernacle”) was originally designed as a battlefield church that can be easily taken down and re-erected where needed. However it has stayed in Deepcut since its construction and its future as a permanent feature of our community is secure.
The large car park is cram packed with executive trailers, catering units and other technical equipment.
Going by the signs on Deepcut Bridge Road, my prediction is that filming will be taking place on the 14th, 28th and 29th of October where “Stop & Go Traffic Control” will be in operation. This is purely speculation but I suspect this will be to stop ambient noise of traffic while they are filming.
This morning I spoke to Steve Knight at Deepcut Garage who said “This is fantastic for the village. We have already noticed an increase in business with members of the film crew coming in for little jobs that need doing on their own cars”.
I also spoke to the owner of Deepcut Cafe who is very excited at the possibility of Samuel L Jackson having a full English breakfast in his cafe.
The movie is expected to premier in November 2014.
If any local residents manage to get any images of celebrities in the area, please send them to me so I can publish on the Residents Network.
A huge thank you to Deepcut Garrage for sponsoring the Surrey Heath Residents Network. A fantastic local company that has been serving & been actively involved in the community since 1977.
