Free Swimming For Under 16’s and Over 60’s

As most of you will be aware due to the country’s financial situation the new coalition government have decided to stop the funding for free swimming as of the 31 July 2010.
Having finished my mayoral year I am now the Conservative executive member for Arts and Leisure at Surrey Heath Borough Council.

I have therefore put to the council leader that we should extend the scheme until the end of August which I hope will allow children on school summer holiday an opportunity to continue to enjoy free swimming or give those an opportunity to take up the sport. This extension will also include the over 60’s.

The report and decision by the executive is due to take place on Tuesday 27 July at the executive meeting.

If my proposal is successful I hope to get it published in the Camberley News on the 30 July.

I welcome any comments on this or matters relating to Arts and leisure in the borough.
